Castle Eden Dene, near Peterlee in County Durham, is a captivating National Nature Reserve spanning 221 hectares of ancient woodland and lowland grassland. Dogs are welcome throughout this mysterious and tangled landscape, perfect for on-lead exploration due to the steep, sometimes crumbling, paths and fragile ecosystem, although specific off-lead rules are not provided.
