Rutland Water

About this park

Rutland Water offers a fantastic day out for dog owners, with sprawling landscapes and dedicated dog-friendly areas. You'll find three main car parks, each offering a slightly different experience. Sykes Lane boasts a designated off-lead dog walking area, perfect for letting your furry friend stretch their legs, whilst Whitwell and Normanton provide access to cycling paths and lovely lakeside strolls. Remember, dogs are welcome throughout most of the park, though they must be kept on a lead outside of the dedicated off-lead zone, and sadly, they aren't permitted in the water itself. The scenery around Rutland Water is truly breathtaking, with vast open water, rolling countryside, and the iconic Normanton Church adding to the picturesque views. There are ample opportunities for long, enjoyable walks or a leisurely cycle with your canine companion. You'll find plenty of well-maintained paths, making it easy to navigate, and the views are ever-changing, offering something new around every bend. Do note that some areas, specifically the nature reserves at Egleton and Lyndon, are not accessible with dogs due to their protected status. Parking is plentiful across all three main car parks (Whitwell, Sykes Lane, and Normanton), with a barrier ticket system in operation. Charges apply, and an annual pass is available if you plan on visiting frequently. All main car parks are equipped with public toilet facilities, and seasonal refreshments are available, with cafes at Whitwell and Normanton open all year round. So, grab your lead, pack some treats, and enjoy a wonderful day out exploring the beautiful Rutland Water with your four-legged friend!
