Jesmond Dene

About this park

Welcome to Jesmond Dene, a true Victorian gem nestled right in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne! This exquisite park offers a delightful escape for you and your four-legged friend, with lush woodlands, a beautiful river, and charming waterfalls that make for truly picturesque walks. You'll find plenty of winding paths to explore, from gentle strolls perfect for older pooches to more invigorating routes for energetic pups. The Dene offers a wonderful mix of natural beauty and historical features, making every visit a fresh adventure. While dogs are generally very welcome, we kindly ask that you keep them on a lead in certain areas, particularly around the pets corner and cafe spaces, to ensure the comfort and safety of all visitors and wildlife. There are plenty of opportunities for off-lead fun in the wider woodland areas, but do always be mindful of other park users and keep your dog under close control. It's truly a fantastic spot for dogs to explore and sniff to their heart's content, with so many interesting sights and smells. Parking is conveniently available at various points around the Dene, including near the cafe and the visitor centre, making access straightforward. You'll find public toilets dotted around the park, and there's a lovely cafe on site where you can grab a cuppa and a snack after your walk – some outdoor seating is often dog-friendly, but do check with staff. Benches are plentiful, perfect for a little rest and to simply soak in the tranquil atmosphere. Water bowls are often provided near the cafe too, which is a thoughtful touch for thirsty paws.
