About this park
Wimbledon Common, nestled in the heart of London, offers an expansive 1,140 acres of diverse countryside, perfect for a cracking dog walk! This green oasis provides a wonderful escape from city life, with a mix of woods, heathland, and open spaces for your furry friend to explore. It's a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC), a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC), so you know you're in for some beautiful scenery and a chance to spot local wildlife. While largely off-lead friendly, there are important rules to follow, especially during bird nesting season (1st March to 31st August). To protect our feathered friends, please keep your dog on a lead around all ponds and on The Plain, sticking to the mown paths and keeping out of the long grass. Always ensure your dog is under control to help preserve this special environment for everyone. There’s a helpful survey for dog walkers on their website, so your input can help shape future improvements. Parking is available at Windmill, Telegraph, Springwell, and REMPF car parks, with varying opening times; note that vehicles must leave by dusk. While specific cafe facilities aren't highlighted, it's always a good idea to bring your own water for both you and your canine pal. Keep an eye out for waste bins dotted around, and remember to pick up after your dog, keeping the Common splendid for all visitors. This really is a fantastic spot for a good long walk, offering a slice of rural charm right on London's doorstep. Enjoy the fresh air, beautiful landscapes, and the chance for your dog to stretch their legs (responsibly, of course!).
