Lake Vyrnwy
Llanwddyn, Powys, SY10 0LZ
About this park
Lake Vyrnwy, nestled in the stunning Berwyn Mountains in Powys, is a true gem for dog walkers seeking breathtaking scenery and diverse habitats. While it's a man-made reservoir supplying fresh water to Liverpool, the surrounding estate, with its moorland, woodland, and meadows, has been transformed into a wildlife haven. You and your furry friend can enjoy miles of trails, listening out for the calls of Wood Warblers and Willow Tits, and might even spot a majestic Peregrine soaring overhead. It's a fantastic spot for a good long walk with plenty to see and sniff! When exploring Lake Vyrnwy with your canine companion, please remember that this is a working landscape and a significant nature reserve. It's essential to keep your dog under close control, especially given the various wildlife and grazing animals. Certain areas might require dogs to be on a lead to protect vulnerable ground-nesting birds or livestock. Always be mindful of other visitors and do ensure you pick up after your dog to keep this beautiful environment clean for everyone. Parking is available at various points around the lake, managed by Hafren Dyfrdwy, and some car parks do incur a charge. RSPB members can often receive a 50% discount on these charges by displaying their membership card. Facilities at the main hub are excellent, with accessible toilets and a cafe where you can grab a cuppa. While the main hub and sculpture park are generally accessible, some of the wider reserve trails can have uneven surfaces, steep inclines, and even stepping stones, so it's worth checking ahead if you have specific accessibility needs. Enjoy your adventure!
