Whinlatter Forest

About this park

Nestled in the breathtaking Lake District, Whinlatter Forest offers a wonderful escape for you and your four-legged friend. As England's only true mountain forest, you'll find stunning panoramic views and a variety of trails, from gentle strolls perfect for inquisitive noses to more challenging routes for energetic pups. The ever-changing scenery, from dense woodland to open vistas, provides a truly immersive experience. Dogs are warmly welcomed throughout Whinlatter Forest, but it's important to keep them under close control, especially given the diverse wildlife and other visitors enjoying the trails. Poo bins are provided, so please remember to bag it and bin it to keep this beautiful natural space pristine for everyone. While there are some designated activity areas, most of the forest is open for exploration with your trusty companion. Parking is plentiful at Whinlatter, with a convenient 'Pay on Exit' system. You can pay by card at the machines or even online up to 48 hours after your visit, making things flexible. If you're a frequent visitor, consider a Forestry England membership for free parking across their sites! The main car park and toilets are open from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm daily. You'll also find a lovely cafe on site, perfect for grabbing a cuppa and a treat after your walk, though it's worth checking their opening hours as they vary. There's also a Visitor Centre and bike hire available, catering to all sorts of forest adventures.
