Derwentwater Lakeshore
Keswick, Cumbria, CA12 5DJ
About this park
Lace up your boots and grab your best furry friend, because a stroll around Derwentwater's lakeshore promises a delightful outing for both of you! Enjoy breathtaking views of the Cumbrian fells, reflected beautifully in the calm waters. There are various paths to choose from, offering everything from gentle strolls along the water's edge to more adventurous routes through ancient woodlands. You'll particularly love the sections where the paths hug the shoreline, providing plenty of spots for a splash and a paddle – perfect for those warmer days. Dogs are more than welcome to explore Derwentwater, but we kindly ask that they are kept on leads in certain areas, especially near livestock or during nesting seasons, to protect the local wildlife. Please also be mindful of other visitors and always pick up after your dog to keep this stunning natural environment pristine for everyone to enjoy. There are usually plenty of waste bins dotted around, making it easy to dispose of any mess. Parking is readily available at various National Trust car parks around the lake, such as at Kettlewell, Ashness Gate, and the Lakeside car park in Keswick, though charges may apply. These spots often have good access to the well-maintained walking paths. You'll find a few picnic benches along some routes, ideal for a rest and a snack whilst taking in the scenery. While a dedicated dog wash isn't available, the lake itself offers ample opportunity for a natural rinse! For a lovely treat after your walk, Keswick town centre is just a stone's throw away, offering a variety of dog-friendly cafes and pubs where you can refuel. Public toilets are usually available near the main car parks and visitor hubs. Derwentwater really is a gem in the Lake District, offering a fantastic day out for dogs and their owners alike.
