Ilkley Moor

About this park

Lace up your walking boots and get ready for a grand adventure on Ilkley Moor, a truly iconic spot in West Yorkshire that's perfect for you and your four-legged friend! This vast expanse of heather and gritstone rocks offers breathtaking panoramic views across Wharfedale and beyond. You'll find a variety of paths, from well-trodden tracks to more challenging, rocky terrain, so there's always something new to explore. While dogs are incredibly welcome here, it's really important to keep them under close control, especially during ground-nesting bird season (typically March to July). Livestock, including sheep and cattle, also graze freely, so a lead is always a good idea when they're nearby. Remember to bring plenty of water for both you and your pup, as well as those all-important poo bags to keep this beautiful moorland pristine. Parking is available at various points around the moor, including the popular Cow and Calf Rocks car park, which can get busy on sunny weekends. You'll often find a mobile catering van here for a well-deserved cuppa and a snack after your walk. While there aren't specific dog facilities like dedicated washes, the open space and trails make it a fantastic natural playground for dogs who love to roam. Just be mindful of the weather – it can change quickly on the moor!
