About this park
Grafham Water, nestled near Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire, offers a wonderful escape for you and your canine companion. This expansive reservoir provides a stunning backdrop for walks, with scenery that truly shines in spring and summer, though a peaceful winter stroll also holds its charm. It's a fantastic spot for a good stretch of those legs and paws! There's a well-maintained, easy-to-follow path encircling the entire reservoir, offering a substantial 13.7km circular route for dedicated walkers, which typically takes between 2.5 to 3.5 hours. Alternatively, if you're after a shorter outing, you can explore various sections of the path, including parts of the nature reserve. The path mostly runs a few metres from the water's edge, but do keep an eye out for little 'beaches' where your dog can enjoy a refreshing paddle. Many dogs absolutely adore splashing about here! Please be mindful that Grafham Water is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its rich wildlife, particularly birds. While dogs are very welcome, please ensure they are kept under close control, especially near nesting areas or wildlife habitats, to protect the local fauna. Leashes might be required in certain sensitive areas. Parking is available and can sometimes be busy during peak times, particularly if the ice cream van is out during summer! Facilities around Grafham Water are generally good, catering to visitors with toilets and often a café or kiosk for refreshments. Do consider bringing wellies if it's been wet, as some areas can get a bit muddy. Cash can also be handy for those delightful ice cream vans in the summer car park. It’s a truly dog-friendly locale that promises a brilliant day out for both two and four-legged adventurers!
