Lever Park
Horwich, Lancashire, BL6 7PZ
About this park
Tucked away in the beautiful Lancashire countryside near Horwich, Lever Park offers a stunning and varied walking experience for you and your canine companion. Lord Leverhulme's vision back in the early 20th century created this picturesque landscape, and you'll find a delightful mix of woodlands, open parkland, and historic features, including the iconic Liverpool Castle folly and Japanese gardens. The paths are generally well-maintained, offering plenty of space for your dog to enjoy a good sniff and stretch their legs, though leads may be necessary in certain areas, particularly around livestock or busier sections. One of the main draws is the scenic Rivington Reservoir, which dogs absolutely love for a paddle on a warm day – just be mindful of fishing access and other water users. The views across the water and up to Rivington Pike are truly spectacular, making for some fantastic photo opportunities. While most of the park welcomes dogs, please always keep an eye out for local signage, especially concerning nature reserves or areas with ground-nesting birds, to ensure everyone has a pleasant visit. Parking is conveniently available at several points around the park, with the main car park often being the one near the Rivington & Blackrod High School or close to the Great House Barn. While there isn't a dedicated dog wash, the reservoir offers a natural rinse after a muddy walk! For a post-walk treat, the nearby Great House Barn often has refreshments and facilities. Do check their opening times before you go. Remember to bring your own waste bags and make use of the bins provided to keep this beautiful park clean for everyone.
