About this park

Allen Banks and Staward Gorge, near Bardon Mill in Northumberland, is a stunning 617-acre National Trust property boasting ancient woodland, deep-cut river gorges, and historical ruins. Dogs are very welcome here but must be kept on a lead at all times to protect the abundant wildlife, including roe deer, otters, and red squirrels, and for the safety of other visitors enjoying this beautiful natural landscape. The diverse terrain offers numerous exploration opportunities, from gentle riverside paths along the River Allen to more challenging woodland trails with steep, uneven sections, so sturdy footwear is recommended. The mix of ancient trees, varied flora, and the impressive gorge provides a rich sniffing experience for dogs and spectacular scenery for owners. Facilities include a pay-and-display car park (with height restriction and JustPark option) and accessible toilets. While there isn't a dedicated cafe, the natural beauty provides ample spots for a picnic. Allen Banks is open from dawn to dusk year-round, making it a perfect destination for a leisurely walk or a more adventurous hike through one of Northumberland's most picturesque natural settings.
