About this park
Englemere Pond, nestled in the picturesque Ascot area of Berkshire, offers a delightful escape for you and your furry friend. This charming nature reserve, covering a generous 27.6 hectares, boasts a shallow acidic lake surrounded by a fantastic mix of habitats, making it a haven for wildlife and a popular spot for dog walkers and ramblers alike. The area has a rich history, having once been part of the vast Royal Hunting Forest surrounding Windsor Castle, and it remains part of The Crown Estate today. As you wander through Englemere Pond, you'll discover two circular marked trails, both starting and ending conveniently at the car park. These paths lead you through diverse scenery, including Scots pine woodland, patches of heather, and the peaceful reed beds around the pond. Sleeper bridges and boardwalks ensure easy passage over wetter areas, allowing you and your canine companion to enjoy the beauty of the reserve whatever the weather. While dogs are very welcome to explore Englemere Pond, this is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Local Nature Reserve (LNR), so please be mindful of the abundant wildlife. Keep your dog under close control, especially around the pond where you might spot a variety of waterfowl, dragonflies, and even grass snakes! There's a handy bench at the pond viewing platform if you fancy a moment to relax and take in the serene surroundings. It's a wonderful place to connect with nature, and given its designation as a Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace, it’s designed to offer an enjoyable environment for recreation.
